Domestic violence has many manifestations and forms. In the period of long holidays, as well as in the period of quarantine restrictions, the situation with abuse in the family can worsen.

The Mariupol Women’s Association Bereginya continues its work with women who find themselves in difficult life circumstances or suffer from domestic violence. We work on the ground – in villages located on the demarcation line, we also provide assistance and consultations by phone, online and in the office.

Cases of violence cannot be silenced – this is the main message that we carry during the meetings, seminars, trainings and webinars that we hold for women and girls. Violence can and should be fought.

It is important for women and girls to know that they are not alone with their troubles, that there is someone to lend them a helping hand. After all, it is very difficult to dare to tell someone about your pain. It’s hard to start acting, especially when you don’t know where to start, who to turn to. Our lawyers provide full support to women and girls who need help. Counseling by psychologists is also important, during which women can find a resource in themselves that will help overcome the problem that prevents them from living a full life. And the consultations of our doctor in some settlements are the only source of medical assistance, due to the lack of medical centers there.

Another important factor that makes it less likely for a woman to end up in a situation where she is completely dependent on an abusive husband is economic independence. Precisely in order to give women the opportunity to earn money with their own skills, this year the Mariupol Women’s Association Bereginya introduced knitting and sewing courses. The courses have very good feedback from the girls who took part in them.

And how pleasant it is to watch the eyes in which the fire of inspiration and satisfaction from one’s work is burning! We know for sure that everything undertaken by the women and girls with whom the Mariupol Women’s Association Bereginya cooperates will be successful. After all, perseverance and tenacity cannot be borrowed from them.
